Hair can become dull and shine-less for many reasons, from not washing often enough to using the wrong products or shampoos. When the cuticle is ruffed up from damage or dry hair, it will create a look that is anything but shiny.
Here are a few Tips for Smooth and Shiny Hair.
Tips for Smooth and Shiny Hair
- Condition of hair– Weekly or monthly conditioning treatments can really help hair shine. Healthy hair is always shinier hair. You can go to your hair stylist and get a recommended conditioner for your hair type or you can explore on your own. Know your hair type and look for a conditioner that works on that type. Fine hair wouldn’t need anything heavy so you would stay away from anything that says “conditioner for coarse hair” or “smoothing”. You would lean towards key words like, “light” or “weightless.” For coarse hair, You might need more than a “light” conditioner, It might have keywords in the description like “deep conditioning,” or “heavy conditioning.”
When you find the appropriate type, apply conditioner to freshly shampoo-d hair and let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse completely.
Coconut Oil can be used as a conditioning treatment. To use coconut oil, warm the oil until it is liquid and apply to your hair evenly. If you have fine, thin hair use only on the ends and mid-shaft of hair, apply a bag over your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo as normal and use light conditioner afterwards. May have to shampoo twice to get all the extra oil off.
Use the right shampoo- if you are using a shampoo that has a lot of wax or ingredients that build up on the hair this will interfere with the natural shine to come through. I always recommend using a professional shampoo, they use less fillers. Using a clarifying shampoo once a week is a good way to keep the build up off your hair.
- Hard water or chlorine– Water deposit will make the hair dull and you won’t get the best performance out of your hair if there is a build-up on it. A professional clarifying treatment will remove water build-up.
- Flat irons– flat irons or hot tools will help smooth the ruff cuticle on the hair shaft. Make sure when you are using a flat iron the temperature is correct for your hair type. The finer and thinner the hair the lower the temp. Use a smooth constant downward motion when flat ironing. Using an even glide when flat ironing will prevent small kinks in the hair strands. when you flat iron, make sure hair is completely dry. Use a ceramic iron plates to prevent damage to hair. Always use a heat protectant when using hot tools.
- Color– Coloring hair can create a lot of shine in the hair. If you have a dull mousy hair color, consider coloring it. You can richen the color by using a demi color, or you can add demential color with hi-lights low-lights. The color will reflect the light creating a shinier look. Color is a great way to add shine to the hair. It can make the hair shiny and healthy looking in a matter of a couple hours. You can also just have a clear gloss put on your hair to add shine.Everyone loves shiny healthy looking hair!!
