Best Way to Volumize Fine Hair

One of the best way to volumize fine hair is a technique that has been around for years.  We watched our mothers and grand mothers do it and it will still gives any hair a lot of volume.

Best Way to Volumize Fine Hair

    • Shampoo– Start your style with a cleansing shampoo, something that really cleans the hair and scalp.  A cleasing shampoo or body building shampoo will work good just make sure it is cleasing enough to remove any deposits left on the hair from products, or oily scalp issues.
    • Twisting or wrapping hair– after shampooing towel blot hair until hair is not dripping but still somewhat wet. Comb or brush hair, then pull it up on your head if its long and begin twisting the hair, wind around into a loose bun.  Secure with a cloth scrunchy and go to sleep.  When your hair is dry, take hair down, you should have a lose wave and volume in hair.
    • Root lifter– Adding a root lifter or a body building product after your shampoo but before you blow dry can give you a lot of body in the hair. It adds the extra texture or grit that you need to create a little volume at the scalp.
    • Blow drying hair– When blowdrying your hair after shampooing, blow in the opposite direction that it grows or blow dry upside down, this gives the hair lots of volume. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you curl or spray with hairspray, or your style will fall soon after. Click here for more info.
    • Round brush– Round brushing at the scalp when blow drying if done correctly can give a lot of volume.  You will want to over-direct the round brush while blow drying. To do this you will take a small section on the top of your head, put the round brush in at scalp, place hair over the brush,  pull brush toward your face, over-directing the hair, continue until hair reaches the end of the brush, then wind up. Your brush should be in front (closer to your face) than the “part” of the section.
    • Hot rollers or velcro rollers– We tend to think of rollers as a thing of the past, but don’t knock it until you have tried it, these oldies but goodies really give you volume.  The hot rollers will give more volume and a stronger curl than the velcro. With both of these put rollers in dry hair and spray with a fine mist of hair spray and dry and let cool. Style as usual. These could be the best way to volumize fine hair. Try it.
    • Backcombing– Back combing is another old technique that has been around for a long time, and there is a good reason why. This is a simple way to get a little height exactly where you want it.  You can do a little or a lot, but be careful this is a technique that can often be seen in fine hair. See here for more tips on backcombing.
    • Haircut– Getting a hair cut can make a big difference when you want to add a little volume.  The wrong cut or just having dead ends can drag down your style.  Go see your hair stylist and get a trim and I bet you will have more volume and maybe you can get some new tips on how to style your hair differently to add volume.
    • Color– Coloring or hi lights can add volume in hair. My hair always gets a little flatter at the scalp when I am due for a color retouch and hi lights.  As soon as I get my color refreshed my hair co-oporates better.
